Studio safety basics — the five rules that prevent bench injuries
A supervised bench — the studio's rules exist because they work.
Jewellery studios are safe places built on five unglamorous rules.
- Torch discipline — tie hair back, no flowing sleeves, fuel checked,
flame never left unattended, know where the extinguisher is BEFORE the
first fire session. - Pickle is acid — tongs only, copper tongs stay in their own bath,
ventilation on. It cleans metal, not skin. - Dust is the quiet one — polishing dust and stone dust: mask during
heavy grinding, wet-clean benches, never blow surfaces toward faces. - Eyes — safety glasses for grinding, sawing sprays tiny pieces, and
flux pops occasionally. - Hands and sharp things — saw toward the bench pin, cap blades when
done, keep the first-aid kit stocked and visible.
Studios teach these on day one — the school's
foundation courses
include supervised torch time precisely so the habits form correctly. Home
bench later: same five rules scale down with you.
What students say
“Attended the courses here and it's worth way more than what you have to pay for. The instructors are all super approachable and welcoming everytime they see you. The tools needed are provided and you get to bring home the crafts that you make during the class. Even the class schedules are pretty flexible. I enjoyed myself here a lot and will definitely sign up for more classes.”

“I will use the skills learnt to make jewellery and other items, such as phone chains, christmas tree decorations & hopefully sell them.”
