Gemmology for makers — know what you set
Gem samples on the grading tray — makers who know their stones set better work.
A maker who knows stones buys better, sets smarter, and sells with
authority. Gemmology is not a separate hobby — it is bench craft's quieter
half.
The three facts that matter most
- Hardness decides placement — rings take knocks: Mohs 7+ (quartz and
up) for rings; softer stones to pendants and earrings. - Treatments are normal and normal to disclose — heat, oil, fill.
Disclosed treatment at a fair price is fine; undisclosed is the scam. - Imitations are material, not morality — CZ and glass are legitimate
fashion materials when NAMED as such.

sessions, free. - Name That Gem — the
identification game. - The [Gem Globe](https://gem.jdmis.edu.sg/globeU gf-globe) — where stones
